How to Use Peppermint Essential Oil to Get Rid of Mice

By Bargz Oils October 25, 2019

Things you will need:

- Spray bottle

- 2 teaspoons peppermint essential oil

- 1 cup of water

Do you have rat problems at home?

Many people think mice are cute because of Mickey and Minnie. However, you probably don’t want the idea of sharing your home with non-domesticated mice and rats. They can be dangerous to humans because of the parasites and diseases that they carry. These pests also contribute to the spread of dangerous allergies. Mice and rats leave urine and droppings everywhere and studies have shown they cause allergies to many people. Exposure to mouse allergen is reported to cause asthma in children and adults.

Aside from health issues, mice and rats can also cause problems in your home. They are known to eat and chew on anything, even parts of your house. They can gnaw on wood and electrical wirings which can cause some accidents in your home.

These rodents can squeeze through tiny openings. They can easily enter your homes especially when they are looking for food and shelter. One problem with rats and mice is that they can be quite secretive. They can be living with you in your home without you noticing. Another problem is that they reproduce quickly, so sooner or later, you have a nest of mice hidden somewhere in your house.

1. Mice and rats squeeze through tiny gaps and cracks. Make sure the walls, windows, doors, eaves, and drains around your house do not have any holes, gaps or cracks. If they do, seal them up immediately with caulk or steel wool. Do not give these rodents any chance to get into your house.

2. Pests like rodents can easily find hidden shelters in your home or in your yard if your properties are cluttered and untidy. Do not hoard and throw away unnecessary items. If you have items or properties that you need to store like newspapers and wood, store them safely away from the home building. Do not bring firewood into the house unless they will be burned immediately in the fireplace.

3. Mice and rats are not only looking for food. They also need water and moisture. Leaks in different areas of your house like the bathroom and the basement can be a source of water for these pests.

4. Clear away leaves, twigs, branches, and debris left on the ground after autumn. If ignored, these make ideal shelters for mice, rats, and other pests during the winter.

5. Mouse repellents can keep rodents away from your home. Natural mouse repellents are better options since they are safer for people, pets, and the environment. Mice hate the strong scent of peppermint essential oil so you can actually take advantage of that.

    1. In a spray bottle, pour 1 cup of water.

    2. Add 2 teaspoons of peppermint essential oil and shake well.

    3. Spritz this mixture on places where you see mouse droppings or where you think you have seen a mouse.

This mouse repellent using peppermint essential oil should drive mice and rats away. Spray every other day for the best results. The good thing is that there are no harsh or harmful chemicals. This spray will also work for spiders. Making your own natural repellent can help you save money as well.
