Do you suffer from sore muscles after a workout?

It’s the time of the year when most people start on their goals of being fit and healthy. Are you one of them? Have you gone to the gym or exercised to burn all the calories and fats you gained from all those holiday parties? You are most likely to experience muscle soreness. It is commonly known as Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS. Don’t worry because it is completely normal. Muscle soreness is a side effect of the stress felt by the muscles when you exercise.

After starting a new workout program or after a change of activity, you might start feeling muscle soreness within 6 to 8 hours and it can last up to 24 to 48 hours. The pain is caused by the inflammation of the muscles. However, it is nothing to be alarmed about because normal muscle soreness is a sign that you are getting stronger. When you exercise, your muscles become stressed and the fibers break down. When the fibers repair themselves, they become larger and stronger than they were before. The next time you work out, your muscles will be better prepared to handle the stress. Anyone, even bodybuilders and professional athletes can experience sore muscles.

1. Do some stretching before working out or before any strenuous activity. This can help loosen and prepare muscle fibers for the exercise.

2. Perform some gentle exercises like walking and stretching even when suffering from muscle soreness. The more you move, the faster you can get rid of the discomfort.

3. Apply a cold compress on sore muscles to help decrease the swelling and inflammation.

4. Apply muscle rub that can help soothe and relieve pain and swelling.

Instead of putting harsh chemicals on your skin, make your own homemade muscle rub using essential oils. It is an ideal way to ease and soothe muscle pain using natural ingredients. Essential oils have anti-inflammatory properties that can naturally relieve pain and soothe sore muscles. The scent of essential oils also has relaxing therapeutical benefits.

    1. In a pot on medium heat, put the coconut oil and sunflower oil

    2. Add the beeswax and stir until completely melted.

    3. Remove the pot from heat and let cool slightly.

    4. Add all the essential oils - rosemary, lavender, and lemongrass. Stir well.

    5. Pour the mixture into the containers and let cool to room temperature before sealing.

    6. Apply generously to sore muscles and gently massage.
