Sure, there are many stain remover products lined up in the detergent section in stores. But in order to remove spots and stains, these products need to use harsh chemicals that pose harm to your hands, your clothes and the environment. The chemicals are washed with the water which goes back to nature. Stains are inevitable. At some point in our lives, we all have experienced spilling
something on our clothes or have others spilled something on them, all by accident. Our favorite shirt or dress ends up having stains or spots and we worry about how to remove them. Or worse, if we will ever be able to remove them.

So, to save yourself, your clothes and the environment, it is wisest to use natural ingredients and methods to remove stains. Here are some useful tips for removing stains and spots from clothes.

1. Remember to act quickly! As much as you can, take action right away when your clothes get stains. The longer the stain sets on clothes, the harder it is to remove them. Of course, we can’t just take off our clothes anywhere. Try to blot the stain with cold water first. Never rub. If you don’t have much time, soak the item of clothing in cold salty water until you have ample time to treat the stain.

2. Before putting the clothing in the wash, make sure to remove the stain first. Blot the stain with a clean cloth before putting in the wash. Do not rub because this will just push the stain further in the fabric.

3. Do not use hot water or acids like vinegar or lemon to bloodstains because this will set the stain. It is better to thoroughly rinse clothes with a bloodstain in cold water with a bit of sea salt.

4. For stubborn oil stains, pour boiling water over it and soak with some vinegar or baking soda before putting in the wash as normal.

5. Use a clean cloth to blot wine stains and then rinse and soak in water and vinegar.

6. Most stains like underarm stains, food, and drink stains can be removed using baking powder and vinegar paste. Apply the paste on the stain and let sit for about an hour before washing.

Some essential oils are also amazing stain removers. Eucalyptus essential oil works best in taking out oil-soluble grease, grass marks, spots and stains from clothing and fabric. Eucalyptus essential oil is a versatile oil that is very helpful at home. It has many great properties such as antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and deodorizer. For laundry, you can make homemade laundry stain and spot remover using eucalyptus essential oil.

DIRECTIONS:

1. Pour water and Castile soap in the glass spray bottle.

2. Add the vegetable glycerin and the eucalyptus essential oil

3. Shake well and apply liberally to spots and stains.

Like most spot removers, this homemade laundry stain and spot remover work best if you treat the spot immediately. Allow the mixture to soak for a few hours before putting the clothes into the washing machine. For heavier stains, you can soak overnight before washing the clothes. Not only will the stains be removed, but your clothes will also smell fresh and clean!
