10 Amazing Ways to Use Tea Tree Essential Oil

               Tea tree essential oil is also known as melaleuca oil. This amazing oil is distilled from the leaves of the native Australian plant called Melaleuca alternifolia. This plant is a small tree that grows in Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. 


               Tea tree essential oil as been used by the Aborigines for centuries as traditional medicine. In the past, native Australians crushed tea tree leaves to extract the oil. The oil was then inhaled to treat coughs and colds. It was also applied directly to the skin.


               Today, tea tree essential oil is popular and is frequently used to heal skin, hair and the body. This oil possesses antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antifungal properties. Because of all of these properties, tea tree essential oil can be used in many different ways. 

 

1. Dilute tea tree essential oil in witch hazel to make a clean skin toner. This is a great treatment for acne.

2. Add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to shampoo to get rid of head lice. 

3. Dab a few drops of tea tree essential oil on a piece of cotton and apply on skin areas affected by an ingrown hair. 

4. To make an effective insect repellent spray, add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to a quart of water in a spray bottle. 

5. Make your own skin lotion by combining one teaspoon of coconut oil with a few drops of tea tree essential oil. 

6. Mix tea tree essential oil with olive oil and massage onto skin affected with rashes. 

7. To soothe sunburn, mix aloe vera with tea tree essential oil and gently apply to sunburned areas. 

8. Mix jojoba oil with tea tree essential oil and apply to soften cuticles. 

9. Apply a few drops of tea tree essential oil on calluses or corns and cover with a bandage. Repeat the process until they are gone.

10. Apply tea tree essential oil directly to warts until they begin to disappear.

 

               There are more ways to use tea tree essential oil. Tea tree essential oil works well when blended with other essential oils. Remember not to ingest tea tree essential oil because it can be toxic when taken internally.
